Hardback Book

Russias Heroes 1941 - 45.  An Epic Account of Struggle and Survival on the Eastern Front by Albert Axell.

Russias Heroes is the story of the ordinary and extraordinary men and women soldiers of Russia: the snipers who engaged in duels in No Mans Land; Cossack cavalry regiments crossing the ice at night to raid ammunition dumps; pilots out of ammunition using their propellers to cut off the tailplanes of enemy aircraft ... soldiers who fought in an insance, giant conflict - the largest theatre of war the world has ever seen in which 37 million died. For more than 60 years the politics of the Cold War made it unacceptable for the real story of the Eastern Front to be told. Now, using interviews and primary evidence collected in Russia, much of it never previously published, Albert Axell tells the story of the epic struggle as it unfolds, interweaving his accounts of individual exploits with the progress of the war itself.

Illustrated hardback with 264 pages.

Kursk 1943, The Tide Turns in the East by Mark Healy

Kursk was the greatest tank battle of World War Two and the decisive last major German offensive in the east. After Kursk, the initiative lay wholly with the USSR, beginning a series of Soviet offensives that would end in the ruins of Berlin. Mark Healy describes the strategic build-up to the battle before presenting a detailed account of the German armoured thrusts into the immensely deep Soviet defences that turned the area into a gigantic killing-ground.
