Hitlers Secret Weapons.
As the Second World War progressed, the race for scientific
intelligence, secrecy and detection brought a new dimension to warfare.
The pilotless flying bomb, or V1 emerged as the first of Hitlers new
weapons, and a brief but terrifying period rained death and destruction on
the South of England until the RAF and anti-aircraft gunners learnt to
counter the terrible doodlebug. With the Allies closing in from the West, and the Eastern front
crumbling, Hitler realised Germany was losing the war and his response was
to give top priority to the VII. Pioneered by Werner Von Braun, it was one
of the greatest advances in the technology of warfare. Capable of being
launched from anywhere, Hitler pinned his hopes on this early rocket, but
the VII came too late, draining Germanys resources and ultimately failing
to alter the course of Hitlers war. Against a background of the famous campaigns which led to his eventual
defeat, this DVD shows spectacular archive footage of Hitlers secret
armoury as it was being developed, tested and finally used in anger.

The Green Devils : German Paratrooper Elite 1933 -
1941.
First
seeing action during Operation Weseruburg - the invasion of Denmark and
Norway in April, 1940 - the Green Devils were the fallschirmjaeger
(paratrooper) arm of the Luftwaffe and were to see extensive service in
both air-drop and ground roles, through to the wars end in 1945. The first
paratrooper unit was raised in 1935 following the profound impression made
upon the Germans by the early experiments with this new form of warfare
conducted by the Soviets. This programme deals with the evolution of the
paratrooper arm, and goes into depth about their important role in the
invasion of the west in 1940. It also offers extensive coverage of the
victorious operation that will remain forever linked with the
fallschirmjaeger Operation Merkur - the invasion of Crete in 1941.

The Green Devils : German Paratrooper Elite 1942 -
1945.
The
Green Devils were the fallschirmjaeger (paratrooper) arm of the Luftwaffe
and were to see extensive service in both air-dropped and ground roles,
through to the wars end in 1945. However, by 1942, fated by Hitlers
judgement that the days of large paratrooper operations had already
passed, the Green Devils were to see out the rest of the war serving
primarily as elite ground troops. This programme shows their operations in
North Africa through to East Prussia and the borders of Germany in
1944-45, as well as in the theatres of Italy and Normandy. It also
includes operations by paratroopers in the East where they are seen taking
on Soviet T-34s using Panzerschreck anti-tank weapons and on the borders
of Germany in the opening months of 1945.

Rommel the Desert Fox
"A tireless fighter in the cause of the Feührer and the
Reich." So said General von Runstedt of Erwin Rommel, Germany's most
gifted general and one of the most distinguished and respected soldiers of
the Twentieth Century. For his inspired leadership of the Afrika Korps, he
would forever be known by friend and foe alike as the Desert Fox.
Rommel showed early signs of his potential when, in 1915, he earned the
coveted Iron Cross 1st Class for an audacious battlefield action. Early
1940 found him waist deep in the River Meuse, heading the 7th Panzers
'Ghost Division' in Belgium: Rommel would never ask his troops to do what
he himself would not. Using revolutionary tactics, he rewrote the rules of
tank warfare and many times overcame superior odds.
But it was at the head of Panzer Group Afrika - the famed Afrika Korps
- that Rommel shaped history, single-handedly reversing the course of the
North African war. In a theatre where the elements also constituted a very
real enemy, Rommel remained one step ahead of both adversaries until El
Alamein.
After failing to persuade Hitler to abandon the doomed Fortress Europe
strategy, Rommel took poison when he was implicated in a murder plot to
save his leader the embarrassment of a public trial - a noble end to a
legendary career. The story of that career is told here using rare archive
footage, much of which has been unavailable in the West since World War
II.

Hitler's War Part 1 1940-43
By June 3rd 1940, Hitler's dream of mastery in Europe had come true as
he triumphantly took Paris after only ten months of war, and then launched
his ultimate plan for an Eastern Front. Opposed by the twin forces of the
invincible Russian winter and the indomitable Russian soldier, the German
army froze and starved outside Moscow.
Encouraged by Japan's entry into the war, Hitler's hopes lay in a
speedy spring offensive, but weakened elsewhere by the disastrous Battle
of the Atlantic, defeats in North Africa, the British bombing offensive,
and certain war with the U.S., his 6th Army was crushed and forced to
retreat from the Red Army battalions. His resolve unshaken, Hitler bows to
the need to re-arm, and in 1943 German teeth are clenched as the struggle
begins to reestablish supremacy by any means. This video narrates Hitler's
early war, using much newly discovered footage including colour material
shot by Eva Braun at the Berghof.
Hitler's War Part 2 1943 - 45
It is 1943 and Germany's triumph is turning into
disaster. With 4 armies lost at Stalingrad, the Afrika Korps
defeated and the submarines neutralised by radar, Germany's morale
waivers. By 1944 much ground is lost, and the fight is against time
as Hitler faces losing the Ukraine, crippling air-raids on Berlin, and an
acute shortage of troops. Not even the last desperate deployment of
the terrifying flying bombs can turn the tide. With the 1944 Allied
invasion, the defeat of Rommel's troops, the relentless Soviet military
machine, and the French winter counter-offensive leading to the Battle of
the Bulge, the crisis deepened. Hitler was ill, threatened with
assassination by his own generals, and the fuel and ammunition were
running out in the face of the advancing allied forces closing in on a
stricken Berlin, making it only a matter of time before Hitler's war would
be over. This video depicts Hitler's crisis years using rare archive
footage much of which has been unavailable in the West since World War II.

The Panzer - The Story of Adolf Hitler's
Infamous Panzer Divisions
Battle tanks decided many battles during
the Second World War. Some 25,000 were produced in Germany and some
250,000 by the Allies during the conflict. Yet despite overwhelming
odds, the German Panzer Divisions became legendary. Just as a
cavalryman becomes attached to his horse, the Panzer crews still vividly
remember their mechanical mounts, the sounds they produced, the smell of
fuel and oil, the effects they had on the enemy and also the fact that the
Panzer could become a steel coffin in one blazing moment.

Stormtroopers - Hitler's Infamous Shock
Troops of World War II
One of the most potent weapons used by
the German army during the first two years of the war was the use of the
infamous 'Stormtrooper'. Soldiers who were sent in advance of the
main thrust of the attack - taking their targets by complete surprise - in
a quick, but immensely effective, short outburst of heavy force.
These raids were carried out by top units of trained marines, paratroopers
and infantry and proved to be highly successful time after time.

Paratroopers
With the use of archive footage, follow this documented
account of Germanys elite parachute troops. Restricted after World
War One, Germany looked on as Russia and America experimented with an
airborne army. Convinced of its strategic and tactical potential,
German leaders such as Goering and Student championed the creation of an
elite parachute corp. When Hitler declared war on the civilised
world, the new paratrooper divisions were to prove instrumental as the
tidal wave of the Third Reich poured across Europe, from the opening days
hostilities in Poland, through France, Italy, Greece and North Africa,
Hitlers elite parachute troops were to prove their worth.

Waffen-SS Hitler's Elite Fighting Force
The SS had its beginnings in the
turbulent street politics of the Weimar Republic. It became Heinrich
Himmler's personal power-base and under him the SS grew into a vast
private army and state within the state. It was a chaotic, corrupt
and often grossly inefficient organisation. But one part of it - the
'Waffen' or 'Armed' SS, formed initially as a fighting force achieved
worldwide fame and notoriety. The Waffen SS won a unique reputation
for daring elan and unfailing professionalism in combat. Yet if
their courage was unquestioned, so too was the fear and loathing which
they elicited-even, eventually, amongst their own people, and in the
regular soldiers alongside whom they fought. The SS played a
conspicuous role in most of the important German triumphs, one far
disproportionate to their numbers. In the long period of decline and
retreat, as the Germans were steadily pushed back from east and west,
despite repeatedly sustaining horrendous casualties, their discipline
remained unbroken, their fighting ardour unimpaired, almost to the very
end. After the war, the Waffen SS were burdened with the near
exclusive blame for the most hideous crimes of the Nazi regime. It
was only unfair insofar as many others were involved as well; and for all
their matchless undoubted bravery, the Waffen SS bears a reputation which
will remain forever stained with infamy.

Gestapo - Hitler's Secret Police
The very name of Hitler's secret police
has become synonymous with the rule of terror that, under Heinrich Himmler,
first maintained and then extended the Fuhrer's iron grip on Germany and
its people. Waging relentless war on political dissidents,
disaffected citizens and religious minorities alike, the Gestapo's tactics
of torture, interrogation and summary execution bolstered Hitler's
crumbling regime to the last and established a reputation for brutality
and oppression that would endure long after the last Gestapo commandant
met his fate at the gallows.
